ACS International Travel and Health for Expats
ACS International — ACS Expat
Modular international health insurance for expatriates, built on 45+ years in international mobility and trusted by 200,000+ clients worldwide — a longstanding InsuranceinAsia partner for expats and travellers across Vietnam and ASEAN.
Every insurer in this directory is reviewed on an ongoing basis by our advisory board against 5 professional criteria — Reliability, Benefits Value, Flexibility, Pricing, and Admin & Claims. Insurers are re-rated as regulations, reinsurance backing, and claims behaviour change, so what you see here reflects our current standing recommendation, not a one-time listing.
No single insurer fits every risk
We represent more than 25 insurers precisely because medical, vehicle, home, factory/office, and professional liability cover each reward a different kind of underwriter. An insurer we rate highly for expat medical cover may not be who we'd recommend for a factory property policy. This profile tells you what ACS is — and isn't — the right fit for.
How ACS scores on our 5 criteria
Scored out of 5 on each criterion. See the full methodology for how we assess reliability, benefits, flexibility, pricing and claims handling across all partner insurers.
45+ years in international mobility cover
ACS has specialised in international mobility insurance since 1979, beginning with traveller cover before expanding into international health insurance for students in 1986, then widening its offer in 2005 to anyone residing outside their home country. Today ACS is a Paris-based brokerage of roughly 50 staff serving more than 200,000 clients worldwide, positioning itself as an affordable, modular option backed by established reinsurance and a dedicated claims administrator for the Asia region.
ACS Expat, the flagship plan profiled here, is a lifetime, fully modular health policy for expatriates under 65 at subscription. Core hospitalisation cover (with medical evacuation and repatriation always included) comes in four tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum — on top of which clients add only the outpatient, dental & optical, maternity or extended-assistance modules they actually need, in Euro or US Dollar, with an optional deductible to manage the premium.
Regulation & financial backing
- Registered with ORIAS (N° 07 000 350), the French insurance intermediary register supervised by the French Treasury.
- Headquartered at 153 rue de l'Université, 75007 Paris, France — a licensed insurance brokerage, not a direct underwriter.
- Claims processing and direct hospital billing across Asia are handled by Euro-Center, ACS's dedicated health plan administrator, from their regional hub in Bangkok.
Who we recommend ACS for
Ideal client profile
Expatriates and future expatriates under 65 at subscription, moving abroad for 12+ months — solo, as a couple, or as a family (children covered to age 25, partners to 65). Once enrolled, cover renews for life with no re-underwriting, as long as premiums stay current. Pricing is set by country of residence, so a client based in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi is priced against Vietnamese healthcare costs rather than a global average. Best avoided for anyone under 12 months abroad — ACS's short-stay Globe Traveller or Globe Partner travel plans fit that case better.
Hospitalisation, Bronze → Platinum
Inpatient stays over 24h at 100% of actual cost, annual limits from €/$500,000 (Bronze) to €/$3,000,000 (Platinum). Medical evacuation, repatriation and 24/7 teleconsultation included at every tier.
Outpatient, prevention & screening
Three reimbursement levels for GP/specialist visits, tests, prescriptions and preventive screening, addable to Silver plans and above.
Dental & optical
Two cover levels, up to €/$4,000/year, for dental treatment, glasses, contact lenses and vision correction surgery.
Maternity
Up to €/$24,000/year for childbirth-related expenses after a 12-month waiting period, with complications cover doubled.
Assistance Plus
Extended support: hotel costs around an evacuation, family travel during hospitalisation, early return home, legal assistance and bail advance.
Deductible options
Choose €/$500 to €/$10,000 deductible to lower the premium while keeping the same benefit limits.
Common questions about ACS Expat
Sourced and paraphrased from ACS's own plan documentation — answered here in the context of clients based in Vietnam and ASEAN.
Who can subscribe to ACS Expat?
Anyone under 65 at the time of subscription who is expatriating, or already living abroad, for 12 months or more. You can enrol solo, as a couple, or as a family — children stay covered up to age 25, and a partner up to age 65.
Where am I actually covered?
Fully in your declared country of residence and across the same geographical zone; in your home country for stays under 6 months (within the selected zone); and anywhere else in the world during trips of under 7 weeks, for emergencies or accidents.
Does it cover hospitalisation without any upfront payment?
Yes for stays over 24 hours — Euro-Center can arrange direct settlement with the hospital, but you need to contact them before a planned admission so billing is arranged in advance. Outpatient direct settlement is available in some cases if you contact Euro-Center ahead of the visit.
Is it a lifetime policy?
Yes. Once enrolled, ACS Expat renews automatically each year with no re-underwriting, provided premiums stay current — there's no upper age limit to remain covered after joining.
How do I lower the premium?
Choose an annual deductible between €/$500 and €/$10,000, applied across the selected health benefits (not the assistance benefit). You can change the deductible once during the life of the policy.
How do I submit a claim?
Claims under €/$1,000 can be emailed to Euro-Center as digital copies for fast processing. Claims over €/$1,000 need original documents posted to Euro-Center's Bangkok office.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Generally not, unless a condition was declared at enrolment and specifically accepted by the insurer — which is why the medical questionnaire needs to be completed thoroughly at subscription.
Reach ACS or your advisor
Before any planned hospitalisation, contact Euro-Center to confirm direct billing — this is the administrator that actually settles hospital bills and processes claims, not ACS's Paris office.
