Bảo hiểm Bưu chính viễn thông PTI – People Trust Insurance

PTI Insurance "at a Post office near you".
PTI Post Telecom Insurance
One of Vietnam's longest-standing domestic non-life insurers — motor, property, health and travel cover for local individuals and businesses, sold through the country's largest branch and agent network.
How we rate insurers →About PTI (Post Telecom Insurance)
PTI — Tổng công ty Cổ phần Bảo hiểm Bưu điện (Post and Telecommunication Joint-Stock Insurance Corporation) — was established in 1998 by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, initially serving the postal and telecom sector before expanding into the wider domestic market from 2003. It has since grown into one of Vietnam's leading non-life insurers, listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (ticker: PTI) since 2011.
PTI's shareholder base evolved significantly over the years — Korea's Dongbu Insurance took a 37.32% strategic stake in 2015, and following VNPT's 2022 divestment, PTI is no longer state-owned, with IPA and affiliated shareholders now holding a controlling stake. Today PTI operates under a "People – Trust – Insurance" brand platform across three business lines: PTI SOS (motor, personal property and travel), PTI Health (health, accident and critical illness), and PTI Commercial (marine, property, agriculture, engineering and liability for businesses).
The company runs one of the country's largest distribution footprints — 55 branches, 200+ transaction offices and over 20,000 trained individual agents (PTI iCA) — supported by a self-service PTICare mobile app.
No single insurer fits every risk
We represent more than 25 insurers precisely because medical, motor, property, marine and liability cover each reward a different kind of underwriter or administrator. An insurer we rate highly for premium expat medical cover may not be who we'd recommend for domestic motor or personal accident insurance. This profile tells you what PTI is — and isn't — the right fit for.
Best-fit use case
Vietnamese citizens and permanent residents wanting mainstream, locally-priced motor, personal property, travel, personal accident or health cover from an insurer with a genuinely nationwide branch and agent network — plus Vietnamese SMEs and corporates needing marine, property, agriculture, engineering or liability cover through PTI Commercial. A practical, budget-conscious domestic option rather than a premium international carrier.
PTI's products are designed and priced for the domestic Vietnamese market and are typically sold in Vietnamese through local branches and agents, with limited English-language service infrastructure. Expat clients wanting international-standard health cover, English-speaking support and global evacuation benefits will usually be better served by one of our international insurer partners — see the full insurer directory. We include PTI here for clients with Vietnamese PR status, Vietnamese family members on a mixed household policy, or straightforward local motor/property needs.
How PTI scores on our 5 criteria
Scored out of 5 on each criterion. See the full methodology for how we assess reliability, benefits, flexibility, pricing and claims handling across all partner insurers.
- Reliability
- A listed insurer since 2011 (HNX: PTI) with more than 25 years in the domestic market and Korea's Dongbu Insurance as a long-standing strategic shareholder. No longer state-linked since VNPT's 2022 divestment — a solid but mid-tier reliability profile relative to internationally-backed carriers.
- Benefits
- A genuinely wide product shelf — over 100 products spanning motor, property, travel, personal accident, critical illness and health — but built for the mass domestic market rather than premium international-standard benefits or global evacuation cover.
- Flexibility
- Three clear business lines (PTI SOS, PTI Health, PTI Commercial) and a large agent network allow reasonable customisation, though plan structuring is less granular than insurers built specifically around tiered international health products.
- Pricing
- Positioned as a mainstream, budget-friendly domestic insurer — competitive on motor and property for local buyers, though not benchmarked against international private health insurance most expat clients compare it to.
- Admin & Claims
- A nationwide claims and roadside-assistance network (~300 field assessors across 53 provinces) plus the PTICare app, but service is delivered primarily in Vietnamese, without the English-language claims infrastructure international clients often expect.
Company Overview
PTI was founded on 1 August 1998 by seven founding shareholders, with Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) as the largest. From 1999–2003 it served mainly the postal and telecom sector before expanding into the general market. A 2008 exclusive distribution agreement with Vietnam Post gave PTI access to over 11,000 post-office points nationwide — at the time the largest sales and customer-service network of any Vietnamese insurer.
The company listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange in March 2011 (ticker: PTI). In January 2015, Dongbu Insurance of South Korea became a strategic foreign shareholder holding 37.32% of shares. VNPT fully divested its stake in 2022, ending state ownership; IPA (a founding shareholder of VNDIRECT) and affiliated shareholders now hold a controlling interest. As of its latest public disclosure, PTI reports equity of approximately VND 2,277 billion and a workforce of around 2,100 staff.
- Founded 1998; listed on HNX (ticker: PTI) since 2011.
- Strategic shareholder: Dongbu Insurance (South Korea), 37.32% stake since 2015.
- No longer state-linked since VNPT's 2022 divestment; IPA-affiliated shareholders hold control.
